Charles Lee Reed lived a very simplistic lifestyle. He grew up in Los Angeles, CA and attended Centennial High School in Compton, CA. Charles graduated from high school at the age of 17 with high honors. He attended USC at the start of his higher education endeavors, and later, Cal State Dominquez Hills where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Finance and Economics. He worked in Finance and Investment Management with Capital Group/American Funds until his sudden passing in 2017. Charles was a frequent giver of time and money to the Long Beach Mission, homeless shelters and community based organizations servicing the youth and the elderly. He also gave away cars to the needy, and donated cell phones. He was very passionate about higher education especially in underserved communities and looked forward to attending college graduation ceremonies of those he mentored and supported. He is survived by 5 sisters and 2 brothers. His sister, Carolyn Reed, has partnered with Families and Schools Empowered (FASE) to execute this scholarship in his name.
